As perhaps the most lauded of Detroit techno figures to emerge in the last decade, you’d be hard-pressed to find an individual who better represents what that city’s sound should be about than Omar-S; by turns raw, sultry, intense and wildly unique, he has the special ability to always sound entirely of himself, while always maintaining edge of surprise.

His label FXHE became a go-to imprint towards the end of the ‘00s, showcasing emerging 313 talents like Jason Fine, Luke Hess, Kyle Hall – and of course himself, in numerous guises over dozens of releases. His approach to DJing is similarly singular, morphing from low-slung, fogged-out tempos through to intense, rasping workouts, interspersed with classics from his hometown played in a way that breathes new life into every gratifyingly unpredictable groove. A proper highlight of Bloc 2015, it was a no-brainer to invite him to return this year.
